{"id":94,"date":"2018-09-27T07:05:51","date_gmt":"2018-09-27T07:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.northfield.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?page_id=94"},"modified":"2025-10-01T08:51:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T08:51:08","slug":"positive-destinations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/northfield.aberdeen.sch.uk\/?page_id=94","title":{"rendered":"Positive Destinations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">On this page you will find information to support your child in planning their future.\u00a0<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Support in school<\/h3>\n<p>Throughout their school career the young people in Northfield Academy focus on building skills which they need to be successful in life, learning and work. \u00a0Choosing a career which suits their skills and interests is a daunting prospect and we work very hard to ensure they have the information they need to make positive informed choices. \u00a0The aim of Northfield is to empower your child with the confidence and knowledge to make their own decisions and take ownership of their own decisions.<\/p>\n<p>This is achieved through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A comprehensive, skills based curriculum which promotes employability.<\/li>\n<li>One to one meetings with Guidance Teachers.<\/li>\n<li>One to one meetings with a dedicated Northfield careers advisor.<\/li>\n<li>The possibility of tailored work experience.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A wide range of opportunities both in school and out, delivered by partners such as local businesses and further and higher education providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Possible Future Destinations<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/northfield.aberdeen.sch.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Destinations-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-664 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/northfield.aberdeen.sch.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Destinations-1.png 397w, https:\/\/northfield.aberdeen.sch.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Destinations-1-199x300.png 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Further education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest provider for further education in Aberdeen City is NESCOL. &nbsp;NESCOL provide a wide range of courses from <a href=\"http:\/\/scqf.org.uk\/interactive-framework\/\">SCQF Level 4 to Level 8<\/a>. &nbsp;These include introductory courses up to HNDs. &nbsp;Entry requirements differ depending on the level of course applied for. &nbsp;For more details go to NESCOL&#8217;s website <a href=\"https:\/\/nescol.ac.uk\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Higher education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To study a subject at a higher level and gain a <a href=\"http:\/\/scqf.org.uk\/interactive-framework\/\">degree<\/a> your child can choose to study at University. &nbsp;The two local universities are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abdn.ac.uk\/\">Aberdeen University<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgu.ac.uk\/\">Robert Gordons University<\/a> and there are many more across Scotland. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apprenticeship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apprenticeships mix training and working so young people can earn money while they learn. &nbsp;There are two levels of apprenticeship Modern and Graduate.
